The following was submitted as a comment to an old posting entitled "Absent Teacher Reserve is a misleading name." Not too many people look at that posting anymore, but we thought that this comment deserved to be available to everyone. Here it is:
I am wondering if there are any ATRs who are angry enough to file an action against the UFT and DOE for their treatment of senior teachers placed in this pool of harassment to get us to leave. I for one have about had it with all the lip service given us and the bogus job fairs. No one wants us because of our salaries, egos, and age. Pleasecontact me at:
elviraesp1954@gmail.com.
If they want us to leave then pay us out. Do not push us from site to site with the premise that if a principal gets to know you, you'll be hired--this is nonsense. When are we going to band together to stop this madness?!
I don't know about other ATRs but I doubt the principal even knows I exist! The school aide gives me my program of the day! woo hoo...so humiliating
ReplyDeleteI am doing a program/vacancy whatever you want to call it and have no clue what is going to happen come Thursday. this week to week stuff is very nerve wracking and i feel that if the city wants us out, then make us deals. i'm in my 30's and would accept some money to go depending on the amount. i'm very frustrated
ReplyDeleteLawsuit? not a bad idea but can we win, after all it is Bloomberg and the DOE we're against.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone spoken to a lawyer? What is needed to file? I am interested.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to know if it is possible to get hold of the budget from the schools that we were excessed from. It seems a little fishy to me when 9 senior teachers leave on their own and the principal replaced the 9 openings with new teachers, the budget is definitely boosted, yet, I am still excessed.
I am also upset when I try to inform the media about the situation and they do not care.
If it is found that new teachers are hired in place of ATR's in the same license area then I think we have a case for discrimination and I am all for it. This dream team must be really good and politically connected. Just how much will it take from each ATR to hire this team? Whatever it is ... count me in.
ReplyDeleteThere have been new hires in so many schools for the past several years--I have met many of them. There is no real hiring freeze, because principals can do whatever they want, and the UFT is backing them. I did speak to a lawyer--he said that since teachers have a union, it is assumed that any injustices will be worked out through them. We have to sue the Union if we want to get anywhere. There is an organization called The NAtional Labor Relations Board--they must be contacted in order to file a complaint against the UFT.
ReplyDeleteI know that this is being posted late but I will be speaking with a lawyer who believes we do have a case.I will know more after I speak with him and invite others to join in the fight.I will also let you know what it will cost us per plaintif in this action.if you are serous and angered please join in.This action involves all of us.
