At a professional development session held today at 52 Broadway, the UFT 's Secretary, Michael Mendel, spoke about SESIS, the DOE's new computer system for recording and tracking information about Special Education students. Here are some of Mr. Mendel's comments:
*"[SESIS] is close to a disaster" and "a major problem that we have to resolve."
*Because of SESIS, the city is losing "millions of dollars" in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.
*"We are in the nightmare phase."
*Some teachers and service-providers, particularly those in the Alternate Learning Centers, are required to record their work on SESIS, but do not have access to the system.
